47th GOOSE DAY RUN SET FOR SATURDAY

LEWISTOWN—Over 150 runners are expected for the 47th annual Goose Day 5K Run this Saturday,

September 27 on Monument Square in Downtown Lewistown. Race time is 9:00 am.

Organized by the Juniata Valley Striders Running Club, the run is a mainstay of Mifflin County’s Goose

Day celebration and one central Pennsylvania’s oldest races. The mostly flat course begins on South Main Street,

makes a quick left onto Water Street then to South Dorcas Street and eventually back to South Main, reaching

the south side of town before working its way back to the start/finish line.

The top overall male and female winners, as well as the top male and female masters’ winners, will take

home Goose Day trophies, as will the first places in nine male and nine female age groups. KC’s Gifts, Jewelry

and Awards of Lewistown is sponsoring all the first-place awards.

Second and third places in each age group will earn medallion trophies. Special awards will go to the

oldest and youngest finishers.

T-shirts will be available to all pre-registered runners, with a limited supply available race day.

Again this year, Runner’s High Timing services will provide live results at runhigh.com.

Pre-registration is $25 for individual adult runners. Those 18 and under pay just $20. There are also

special rates for families: $40 for two members, $55 for three, and $70 for four. Race day registration, which

starts at 7:45 am at the old courthouse, is $30 for all runners.

Race applications are available on the Juniata Valley Striders’ website at www.jvstriders.com and on the

club’s Facebook page.

Sponsors making year’s race possible are KC’s Gifts, Jewelry and Awards; Lake Auto Dealerships; Juniata

River Valley Visitors Bureau; Dunkin’; Houtz Chiropractic; J.M Young & Sons; Altiery Gingerich Insurance Agency;

LHM Physical Therapy; and Kish Bank.

Proceeds from the Goose Day Run will benefit local youth running, from aiding the Juniata Valley

Striders’ youth track and field and cross country programs, to supporting high school cross country and track

programs in Mifflin and Juniata Counties, and helping fund the JVS’s annual high school scholarship program.
