Trexler, LHU softball splits with LeMoyne

WINTER HAVEN, Fla.
– The Lock Haven University softball team (5-5) returned to the field in Florida today (Saturday, March 11) and the Bald Eagles split a pair of games. LHU opened the day with a dominating 10-2 (5 inn.) win over Le Moyne, but split the day after dropping game two to IUP, 5-0.

 

The Haven is now 2-2 on the Florida Spring Break swing and overall on the season, Lock Haven is 5-5.

 

In the day’s opening win vs. Le Moyne, Lock Haven scored 10 runs on 15 hits and the Bald Eagles broke open a scoreless game with five runs in the bottom of the third. LHU added two runs in the fourth and put the game away with three more runs in the fifth.

 

In all, seven different players recorded a multiple-game in the victory over the Dolphins of Le Moyne.

 

Summer Peters (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) was 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs and a run scored. Haley Lestician (Lawrenceville, N.J./Lawrence) was 2-for-2 and her two-run home run to left in the fifth helped seal the big win. Delaney Good (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg) was 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs scored.

 

Riley McClellan (Granville Summit, Pa./Troy) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, and Bella Schmitt (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York) was 2-for-3 and she drove in two runs. Maci Brodzina (Warriors Mark, Pa./Tyrone Area) and Morgan Karasek (Bangor, Pa./Bangor) both recorded two-hit games.

 

Pitcher Jada Schellhammer (Tamaqua, Pa./Tamaqua) recorded the victory. She scattered four hits over five innings and struck out two.

 

The Bald Eagles dropped their second game of the day today, falling to IUP, 5-0. Despite the loss, Lock Haven hit well and finished with 10 total hits.

 

At the plate vs. IUP, Schmitt went 2-for-4 and Rianna Trexler (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte) was also 2-for-4. Lestician impressed again as well, and she was 2-for-3 at the plate.

 

Pitchers Madison Waltman (Turbotville, Pa./Warrior Run) and Kinley Gioglio (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) combined for four strikeouts. Gioglio tossed two no-hit innings of relief, and she didn’t surrender a walk during that stretch as well.

 

Yesterday (Friday), Lock Haven opened the Florida trip with a split, thanks to a solid win over Wheeling.

After two days of play in Florida, tomorrow (
Sunday, March 12) is a scheduled off day for Lock Haven. The Bald Eagles will return to play in the Sunshine state on Monday (March 13) with games vs. Felician (2 p.m.) and Saint Michael’s (4:30 p.m.).
