Reed: Huskies play tough but falls to undefeated Shippensburg

LEWISTOWN- The 1-3 Mifflin County Huskies welcomed in the 4-0 Shippensburg Greyhounds at Mitchell Field.
Mifflin County competed well against the Greyhounds early but fell apart late to fall to the Greyhounds for the fourth consecutive loss for the Huskies.

“These kids competed we had a great week of practice and preparation. We were ready to go. We were hitting on all cylinders offensively but we missed it there,” said Mifflin County coach Shane Breon. “I’m very proud of our effort they came ready to play tonight. If we play like that hopefully we get some victories. Coming down the stretch here we have played a lot of good football teams in our first five games. I think you are going top see these teams in the playoffs in District 3. They are going to make some runs. Looking forward to the future as long as we practice well we will be in good shape for the last five games.”

Mifflin County only trailed Shippensburg 7-0 at the end of the first quarter the Huskies were feeling pretty good about things.
Janye Statum would find the endzone on a two yard score to extend the Greyhounds lead to 14-0.
Mifflin County Gavin Herrington had a team leading four tackles in the first half. Herrington found himself all over the field making plays.
Mifflin County’s defense was up to the test. Hunter Tipton Peyton Kearns and Avery Aurand all made tackles behind the line of scrimmage.
Shippensburg would mount a big drive it would end in an interception with 37 seconds remaining Reese Christine would pick off Brady Macieejewski. The Greyhounds would tackle Christine short of the endzone. Huskies running back Brice Rishel would take it in on a one-yard score to cut the advantage to a one score 14-7.

Mifflin County would open the second half with the football.
The Huskies would go empty in their possession.
Shippensburg would take advantage scoring another touchdown.
Statum would score on a two-yard rushing touchdown to give the Greyhounds padding making it a two score game 21-7.
Shippensburg would score again and Mark Carothers would find the endzone.
Chase Hartung would enter the game. Hartung would find Landon Haigh in the middle of the field. The ball would fall incomplete resulting in another empty possession.
Mifflin County would get back on the board Cyrell Green would score on a 25 yard touchdown to cut into the lead 28-13. Things would unravel the Greyhounds would go off Shippensburg would go onto beat the Huskies handing the team their fourth straight loss.
Shippensburg remains unbeaten in their first five games.
