MC girls XC team finished 10th at Gettysburg

The Mifflin County Cross Country Lady Huskies had a fantastic race day at the Gettysburg Invitational. Of the nine that competed today, six would walk away with personal records. The weather was a perfect Fall morning with race time temperatures in the 50’s. The team had a 10 day break from racing and had a great week of training that set them up for ideal conditions.

“I am super proud of all the hard work they have been putting in and for those that have battled through several injuries,” said Mifflin County Coach Neil Breneman. “Today, they were able to see the results of their effort and can begin believing what they can accomplish as we move into championship season. The team placed 10th out of 26 teams and every Varsity runner posted times under 25.”

Leading the team was Amila Coffey. Amilia finished in a great place today as she is clearly back on track after fighting through some challenges in the past few races. Ava Kratzer posted another PR coming in second for the team.

“I was glad to have Liberty Cook and Abby Anderson with us racing in the valuable 3 and 4 positions for the team,” said Breneman. “Our team would not have placed where we did without them.”

Finishing the scoring today for the Huskies was Maya Morgan who bested her old PR and looked stronger than ever.

“Maya ran a great practice on Thursday which made me believe she was going to do something special today,” said Breneman. “I am so proud she has continued to put the hard work in and could post a PR in her senior year.

Finishing out the Varsity team was Caroline Palopoli and Madison Baumgardner, both of whom looked great and had their best runs of the season.

In the JV race both Eden Smith and Carys Morgan ran their fastest times yet. Eden has continued to put in hard work and has been chasing her PR from BVI.

“I am so glad she could surpass it today,” said Breneman . “Carys beat her goal time by more than a minute and is learning what she is capable of.”

The team will have another week of training before they travel to Big Springs for the Mid Penn Championships next Saturday, October 11.
