MCVEYTOWN – The McVeytown Eagles defeated the Burnham Bulldogs by the score of 29-0 in CKYFCL Midget football action Sunday afternoon.
Alex Weaver set the tone right away for McVeytown during the opening drive of the game collecting a tackle for a loss as well as a sack.
But then during the Eagles opening possession, they found a big play from Calvin Napikoski who went 54 yards to score.
Weaver again made his presence felt getting another tackle for a loss. But was soon joined by Cole Laughlin who made a big tackle himself and Juelz Williams collected a sack.
When McVeytown went back on offense, Weaver made another big play, going nine yards for the touchdown. Weaver then completed the two point conversion with a pass to Canyon Brown to make it 14-0.
Napikoski made the biggest run of the day going 84 yards to the endzone. But then Liam Bender attempted another two point pass that ended up being deflected, only to land into the arms of Bentley Harmon who then scored to make it 22-0.
The final points of the game came during the fourth and final quarter as Bender muscled his way into the endzone for a four yard score. Brown then scored the extra point.
Despite the shutout, Burnham made some big plays throughout the game. One such play was a huge tackle for a loss from Patrick Legare, a fumble recovery by Malcolm Collins and some but time offensive plays by Connor Rose and Aiden Alexander.
Burnham will look to rebound on Sunday as the Bulldogs travel to face Kish North. While McVeytown will host the Derry-Decatur Cyclones.
Best of luck to both teams!
