LEWISTOWN – Closing out the same way they started their home season, the MIfflin County Huskies football team finished its home season of its schedule with a win Friday night. The Mifflin Huskies welcomed in the Gettysburg Warriors for a conference showdown on senior night at Donald Chapman Stadium.
In the end, it was the Huskies that came out victorious by a 34-21 victory.
The Mid Penn Star-Studded quarterback leading passer, Grant Johnson, got off to a strong start converting a 69-yard pass into a touchdown. Mauricio Escobar would haul it in for the score to give the Warriors a 7-0 lead, five minutes into the game.
Gettysburg had production from their backs, senior Preston Burnett, had a strong day running along with Jackson Stanton despite the teams 34-21 loss to Mifflin County.
The Huskies had the running game working for them. Brandon Kauffman rushed for 141 yards in the win putting together his third straight 100 yard game.
“We just keep working hard. We just need to work hard for our seniors because this will be the last time we ever play football for some of us,” said Brandon Kauffman. “But we just have to keep putting in the work and work hard and practice that will carry us into the next game.”
Mifflin County also made some plays in the receiving game with some players stepping up. It was the norm for star studded Lucas Hartung. He had 91 yards on the night to go along with two touchdowns. Kyson Russler and Jude Zook also made plays to help prevail them to victory over the Warriors.
“We just have to take this momentum into next week against Redland,” said Lucas Hartung. And hopefully come out with a win on the road and build off this win
Mifflin County was solid on the defensive side Jayden Smith and Gavin Herrington found themselves in the backfield a lot during the teams 34-21 win over Kane Pecht also had himself a sack right before halftime after a costly penalty for unsportsmanlike but Pecht would limited Gettysburg of any scoring opportunities.
“Yeah it’s a great win for us. You always want to send your seniors out on a positive note,”said Mifflin County coach Shane Breon. “We did that and I’m proud of our guys. Our defense played well. They (Gettysburg) have good players on that team and we were able to contain them today. They hit some deep balls on us which I knew they would but our guys hung in there and our offense did some things to get ahead. Their first drive in the second half was huge. I think our team is starting to become a really good football team so we will see what we can do from here.
Despite playmakers like Julz Warren and Kash Kessel the Warriors were outperformed by Mifflin County despite giving up a few explosive plays.
Mifflin County will travel to Westshore Stadium to take on Redland next Friday kickoff slated for 7:00pm
