Bellefonte battles in Laurel Highland title tilt but loses in shoot outs

Saturday, the Bellefonte boys soccer team battled Bedford in the Laurel highland league championship game at Saint Francis University.

It would be everything a fan would want in a championship match as the game would come down not to just on shootout but two.

But in the end, Bellefonte fell 5-4.

“It was a great back and forth championship game. Bedford did a good job moving the ball around, and our guys did a good job of containing them,” said Scott Martz. “Through both OT’s each team had their chances. In the 1st shootout we got the two stops we needed and out. The guys hit some good pk’s but give their GK credit he was able to just get a hand on them. Final shootout they just hit the shot they needed. I am so proud of the effort our guys put forth tonight.

Bedford scored their first goal at 13:19 on a Lantz Owen score.

Bellefonte tied the contest at 28:43 on a John Servant blast.

But Bedford would come right back at 31:42 thanks to a trimolani Owen shot.

In the shootouts, bellefonte finished with six while Bedford tallied 11.
