Altoona tops MIfflin County in season finale

By Dom Reed

LEWISTOWN- Mifflin County Ladies Huskies soccer team welcomed in Altoona under the lights in a game that started just a little bit after 8:00 on a crisp cold night at Donald Chapman Stadium.

Altoona had the early advantage with 18 shots on goal in the first half. In a first half where they had really good looks on goal and converting a shot into a goal off the foot of Ajaycia Alexander. Alexander would have two of the three Mountain Lions goals in the 3-0 shutout win over the Huskies.

Altoona’s other score would come off the foot of Sophia Odea. It would be in a game where the Mountain Lions would prevail in a 34-shot on goal performance. However, Altoona could only come away with three points in part of Mifflin County’s LIberty Cook effort to only let three tough shots come out of her reach.

“We are a young team so that’s a good thing i thought there was a point in time in the middle of the first half there where we actually put pressure on them and did some good things,” said Mifflin County coach Barrett Knepp.  “But they were just a few and far between and tried to do anything offensively. Honestly we got to clean those things up and get some more push next year.”

Mifflin County did come close to scoring twice on a Abigail Anderson missed opportunity and a close goal from Emma Herwig. The Mountain Lions would hang tough and hold their own to avoid any goals to come across to steal a win from the home team.

Best of luck to seniors  Lorynn Knepp and Mackenzie Peachy in the future endeavors as  they played their last soccer game at Donald Chapman Stadium.
