Another Outstanding Night of Track & Field for Juniata’s boys, Baublitz Qualifies for Penn Relays & New Balance Nationals

Four Juniata runners competed Thursday, January 23 at the State College meet #2 at Penn State University indoor track facility.  The night started out with senior Garrett Baublitz winning the boy’s mile.  Garrett took charge from the gun setting out to run a sub 4:17.50 mile to qualify him for New Balance Indoor Nationals and the prestigious Penn Relays in April.  After just missing the standards at Kevin Dare last Saturday, he knew it was possible this time if he ran a better paced race.  He executed it to perfection by running a 4:17.23 and a personal best.  Senior Clay Yeager placed 7th in the same race with a time of 4:41.46.  Junior James Hazard broke 5:00 for the first time in his career running 4:59.09 good enough for 18th place and a new PR.
Senior Tad Shellenberger and Garrett Baublitz also competed in the 400 meters with Garrett placing 5th with a time of 52.78.  Tad ran 56.06 to place 13th.
In the boy’s 800 meters, Clay Yeager placed 5th with a time of 2:04.18 and a new personal best.  James Hazard also competed in the 800 meters running a time of 2:19.06 good enough for 28th place.
Coach Miller said “He was very happy for his four boy’s efforts.  They were out there having fun and doing what they do best, setting personal best.  Garrett ran splits in his mile that were almost exactly what we discussed several nights earlier.”
