Back on track; MC 15s explode for 19 runs against East Texas

Back on track!

After suffering an opening day loss to New England, the Mifflin County 15-year olds (Mid-Atlantic champs) came back with a vengeance today against East Texas, roping them 19-1 in the second day of pool play in the Babe Ruth World Series championships at Eagle Pass, Texas.

Trace Brought started on the mound for Mifflin County but it’s bats would take center stage first as they hit in the visitor’s spot.

In the top of the inning, Ryan Hine and Xavier Smith got things going, reaching base and setting the stage early for Doug Weaver. He did not disappoint as he blasted a double into the outfield, giving MC the early 2-0 advantage. Weaver would have 3RBIs on the day as well as two hits.

Weaver then scored on a Tucker Gill double of his own, making it a 3-0 lead.

Brought and company kept the team from Del Rio off the scoreboard.

Mifflin County failed to score in the second but it got a 2-out double by

Second – 2 out double Garrett Leitzel.

East Texas picked up its only run of the ball game in the bottom of the inning making it a 3-1 contest.

Back roared Mifflin County in the third as Smith doubled to start of the inning.

Ryan Kanagy joined him on base putting runners on first and second.

Weaver reached on an error. Gill brought two home on a bases loaded infield single to shortstop. With the single, Gill picked up the third of his game-high 5 RBIs. He then stole second.

Teammate Deakon Schaeffer roped a  blast that looked to be an inside the park home run but he was called out on a questionable call at plate.

However, Mifflin County increase its advantage to 6-1.

In the Bottom of the third Brought sent East Texas down 1-2-3.

In the top of the fourth, Brought helped his own cause as he  reached first to start the inning. One wild pitch later and he was standing safely at second.

Landon Eichhorn followed with a double now putting runners on first and third.

Leitzel reached base on an error at 2nd that allowedBrought to score and moved Eichhorn to third.

Trevor Sheaffer loaded things by reaching base as well and Hine picked up an easy RBI on a walk, upping it to 8-1.

Kanagy’s Fielder’s choice RBI allowed the MC squad to go up 9-1.

Later in the inning, another Wild pitch scored Sheaffer to put the visitors in double digits on the scoreboard.

Weaver reached again as himself and Kanagy found themselves on the corners with two out. Gill loaded bases with a walk.

Schaeffer smoked an RBI double, rounding out the scoring at 12-1.

In Bottom 4th, Del Rio Texas still could get nothing started.

In the top of the fifth, the bats continued to go crazy as it started with an Infield single by Hunter Bailey, a single by Trevor Sheaffer. JP Pannizzo cleared his teammates off the base paths as he cracked a shot into the depths of the outfield resulting in an 2RBI double, scoring Bailey and Sheaffer.

When the dust settled in the top of the inning, Mifflin County plated seven runs in the inning, 19-1.

Aiden Reed came in in the bottom of the inning and sent East Texas packing and helped even the Mid-Atlantic Champions record to 1-1.
