Bald Eagle Area tops upstart PO squad in grid iron action

WINGATE – Back into the win column. Friday night, the Bald Eagle Area football team looked to get back in the win column as they went up against the young upstart Philipsburg-Osceola team in Laurel Highlands action.

The game was a close contest but in the end, it would be the Eagles that got the victory 21-14.

Leading the ground game for Bald Eagle Area was Grady Fisher as he just missed the 100-yards rushing mark, picking up 98. He also notched two of the Eagles three touchdowns on the night.

Close behind Fisher was Nick McCully who finished with 78. McCully scored the third touchdown in the team’s win.

Defensively, the Eagles played stingy keeping the Mounties offense in check for most of the contest.

Going into the final stanza, the Eagles were in complete control, leading 21-7.

Philipsburg-Osceola battled back but could not finish the comeback attempt.

The Eagles also picked off the Mounties twice in the game while only turning the ball over once on offense. The two interceptions were by Luke Hosband and Nino Danneker.

With the win, the Eagles sit at 2-3 and will battle Bellefonte, another 2-3 team next week to try to get to .500.
