Bald Eagle Caps off strong night in Curtin Bowl win

By Kenny Varner

BELLEFONTE – With the Curtin Bowl on the line Friday at Bellefonte high school, Bald Eagle brought it’s A-game and then some as it defeated Bellefonte on its home turf, 48-0.

Defensively, the Bald Eagles were all over the ball, figuratively and literally as they combined to force seven turnovers in the game, two of which were interceptions by Mike Snyder.

On his second pick, Snyder took it to the house for the 30-yard TD interception.

Offensively, Carson Nagle lit it up through the air as he hit for 323 yards. His favorite was Kahale Burns who finished with 224 yards receiving.

The Eagles ground game was also pretty successful when called upon as the crew of runners finished with 124-yards on the ground, 63 of which came from Tre Greene.

“I think in the first two games we weren’t really our aggressive selves. We talked to the coaches and said we need to spread the field. Our kids did that tonight and I’m very proud of them,” said Bald Eagle coach Jesse Nagle.

Bald Eagle struck first on its opening possession.

After forcing Bellefonte to punt in its first drive, Bald Eagle had the ball on the Bellefonte 36 after a strong punt return.

On first and goal from the six, Greene was determined to cross the goal line and did, making it a 6-0 contest with. 9:22 on the board. The PAT by Kaden Burns was good.

On the ensuing kickoff, the Eagles squibbed a kick at the Bellefonte front line, in the scramble for the ball, Bald Eagle came out with the football.

But the Red Raiders were able to hold Bald Eagle on the trip down the field, forcing a 4th and 7 from the 15.

Nagle chose to go for the field goal.

However, the ball was blocked and was caught by Tyler Rice. Rice returned it to the Red Raiders 33 before he was brought down.

Like it did in Bellefonte’s first series, the Eagles forced its second punt.

The Eagles would start the drive at their own 29.

Marching down the field, the Eagles went on a 14-play drive that would take the game into the second quarter.

Minutes into the second, Nagle would find Wyatt Spackman on an 11-yard hook up, upping the Eagles lead to 14-0.

But they weren’t done there.

When the dust settled, Bald Eagle added 28 points in the period to put the Eagles comfortably on top 35-0.

Others scoring in the second were a 32-yard pass from Nagle to Camron Watkins and a 78-yard TD pass to Burns. Rounding out things in the period was Greene’s second touchdown of the night.

Things continue to click for the Eagles in the third as Nagle again found Burns, this time it went for 25 yards after Burns shrugged off and faked out numerous defenders on his way to the end zone.

Rounding out the scoring for Bald Eagle would be an 30-yard interception by Snyder to officially ice the game and put his team up 48-0.

With the win, the Eagles captured the Curtin Bowl Title for 2022.
