Bald Eagle girls top rival Bellefonte in girls soccer action

After dropping a close contest to Clearfield, the Bald Eagle Area girls soccer team was back at it Saturday morning when they met up with Bellefonte for the second time this season.

Bellefonte, after coming off a week where they played three games including a strong win over Penns Valley, was looking to tough out another one before the weekend was over.

“We has a tough fight over at Penns Valley the other day. Our girls are just right now digging out of the exhaustion. They played last Saturday against Clearfield and two games this week and another game this Saturday. We are making up these games that were cancelled,” said Bellefonte coach Stacey Miller. “It’s just been everything piled on. Just pure exhaustion.”

But the Lady Eagles’ offense which was spearheaded by a strong defensive back-third were showing its scoring prowess, topping the Lady Raiders in a 7-0 shut out.

In both periods, Bellefonte started out strong with some intensity but early back-to-back goals by the Lady Eagles took the wind out of their sail.

“They rebounded well,” said Bald Eagle coach Jared Moore. “I was really impressed today. We didn’t have our best stuff against Clearfield. So this was a nice turnaround for us.”

After taking the ball down into the back-third of Bald Eagle, the Lady Raiders got close but could not find anyway of getting through the back row.

The Eagles switch the field early on and at 14:02 mark Heather Leksovanski picked up a pass in mid stride from Falen McHenry and snuck it past the Bellefonte goalie.

Before Bellefonte knew what hit them, the Lady Eagles scored yet again less than a minute later when McHenry hit a goal of her own, making it quickly a 2-0 contest.

With the lead, Bald Eagle continues to knock on the door but Bellefonte held them off for some time.

McHenry would add another goal to up the lead to a 3-0 contest.

But at the 27:26 mark, Sarah Holler had the Golden touch and sent yet another through the net, giving her team the 4-0 advantage going into the intermission.

Coming out of the intermission, the Lady Raiders battled and once again drove the ball up into Bald Eagle territory.

But like in the first half, the Red Raiders weren’t able to crack the Bald Eagle defense and eventually lost possession back to the Eagles.

Again it would be McHenry that would get the ball to touch nothing but the back of the net, upping it to a 5-0 showing.

Two minutes later, McHenry once again blasted a booming shot that would give her a hat trick and her team another goal. She was set up by a picture perfect timing pass from Anna Cingle.

Rounding out the scoring on the night was Holler who picked up a pass from Alex Hacker, ending the scoring in the game as a 7-0 contest.

But even to the end, the Red Raiders refused to give up as they left everything on the field.

Bald Eagle Area outshot the Red Raiders 15-6 and held an advantage on corners by a 5-1 margin.

Angelina Grieb finished with four saves while Bellefonte’s Emily Culp had two and teammate Haley Popavitch had four.
