Bald Eagle volleyball shines in sweep over

It was another challenging test for the Bald Eagle Area volleyball team coming in one week.

Tuesday, the Lady Eagles took care of a very tough Somerset team in a thrilling 3-2 win.

Two days later, the Eagles went up against a 20-3-2 Forest Hills team.

It would be a total team effort for the Lady Eagles as they swept the Rangers in three (25-19, 25-22, 25-18).

“We are very proud of them. It’s been a very tough week and I thought they did really super well,” said Bald Eagle Area coach Taylor Geodroc. “We just came off a 5-set win and sweeping them (Forest Hills). I’m so proud of them.”

The night was filled of high level, intensity filled games with numerous long volleys, clutch saves and strong aggressive offensive play by Bald Eagles.

In the first game, the Lady Eagles pulled out a hard fought 25-19 victory. Leading the charge was the powerful blasts of Leah Bryan who was potent from the outside. So was teammates Kendall Gavlock and Emily Smith. The three did a great job as bookends for the middle row.

In the middle Bald Eagle gots strong strong net blocks by Addelyn Fisher and Rory Gilham.

The battle continued into the second set as the Bald Eagle offense started out sizzling breaking out to a 9-2 advantage.

In the run, the four service points by the Eagles’ Casey Angellotti. Teammate Smith added two more to secure a strong lead.

But the Rangers continued to chip into the Lady Eagles lead as they made a strong push at the lead.

Leading the comeback was six service points from Adalynne Webb, cutting the Eagles lead from 15-10 to a 15-15 tie.

Bald Eagle shrugged off the tie and refocused on taking back the lead.

They did just that as they were able take a side out and another service three more points by Angellotti, putting them ahead by four.

From there, Bald Eagle was able to fend off the Lady Rangers as the two battled back and forth the rest of the game, giving the home team the 25-22 victory and most important a two-game lead.

“We were definitely solid all the way around. I thought that was an awesome game for us,” said Giedroc.

The final contest proved to be another tight contest as they exchanged momentum as much as they changed side outs.

Things would be a tie game up to 17-17. But the Eagles were about to change that.

With no pressure on them, Bald Eagle reeled off six consecutive service points by Nora Eppley to set up her team to take home the 25-18 victory, game, set and match.

With the pressure packed week the Eagles had, the team will look to take this into the rest of the regular season and into the post season.
