Battle for 10U Championship goes to Mount Union in close win over MIfflin County

LEWISTOWN – Mount Union took control of the game early on and never let up, defeating Mifflin County to the Cal Ripken District 13 10U baseball championship by the final score of 8-4 over at Rec Park.


After Mifflin County took a quick 2-0 lead at the end of the top of the first, Mount Union would answer in the bottom half of the first, dropping four runs in the frame. Zach Heane got it started, scoring on an error at short before Parker Dixon hammered a triple to left, scoring Beau Wise. Ryder Chilcote kept the offense rolling with a single to center to bring home Dixon before Chilcote scored on a throwing error by the catcher.
Chase Benfer got Mifflin County back on the scoreboard reaching on a fielder’s choice that drove home Caden McClure.
Chilcote on a 3-2 pitch came up clutch with a double to left bringing home Wise. Landen Copenhaver later grounded out to second but was able to score Dixon.
Kanagy would bring in another run for Mifflin County in the top of the fourth with a single to right that scored Anderson Bitner.
The Mount Union bats would come through again this time with a Mason Swanger single that drove in Heane before Wise scored on a wild pitch.


Heane got the start for Mount Union for the afternoon and came up big going the distance. Through six innings of work, Heane collected six strikeouts and had zero walks.
Chilcote led the charge at the plate for Mount Union going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a double. Dixon was 2-for-2 with an RBI triple and Heane went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
For Mifflin County, Greyson Getz, Chase Krepps and Bitner each going 2-for-3 with Krepps and Bitner each having a double in the game as well. Benfer and Kanagy both went 1-for-3 with an RBI and Mason Joyce was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
Joyce also got the start for Mifflin County, going two innings with four strikeouts and three walks before handing the reins over to Jaxon Parkes who completed the final three innings for Mifflin County. Parkes struckout four while having zero walks.
