BEA girls end season on good note, tops PV

WINGATE – Leaving it all on the field Thursday, the Bald Eagle Area girls soccer team came of age as they battled Penns Valley in their final regular season game of the Laurel Highlands competition.
With a chance to find their way into the postseason, the Lady Eagles battled back from an early deficit and scored late in the second half on a goal from Savannah Albright and held on for the 2-1 victory over the Lady Rams.
“I’m very proud of them. It’s unfortunate that we’re done. We needed Central Cambria to lose. And they did not,” said Bald Eagle coach Jared Moore. “It’s unfortunate we did our end of it but you know it goes. You win a couple more games and you don’t have to worry about this one.”
However, they fell just a game short as Central Cambria would win their game, ending the Lady Eagles season.
With the game tied at one coming into the second half, the Eagles came out of the intermission with their game faces on.
“I am proud of them. From where we were in the beginning to where we are now and in between. This is a good end,” said Moore.
They would push the ball down into the Penns Valley backfield.
The team started to click on all cylinders as they started to take over the possession of the ball.
However, early on the Lady Rams got their transition game going Elle Dinges with a chance to end the stalemate but it would be the Bald Eagle defense that was able to recover and end the threat almost immediately.
With both teams trying to establish momentum it was the Lady Eagles that would get their offense rolling along. They would go on a time consuming drive of almost 10 minutes where they pushed two shots at the Rams goalie Marks.
Marks, who finished with seven saves was automatic and continued to keep the Eagles from taking the lead.
But the Bald Eagle Area defense also stood tall as they completely shut down the running lanes that Dinges had been using to get strong looks at the Bald Eagle goal.
Bald Eagle Area freshman goalie Cami Walker played like a veteran in the game snagging 14 saves. Six of those would come in the second half when her team needed it the most.
Both defenses took over the contest as both sides were able to protect the tie as the game headed under the 20-minute mark in the second.
Bald Eagle found its chance to put a potential winning goal and they went for it.
At 16:24, Albright and sailed a screamer that just sailed over Marks, putting the young Eagles ahead 2-1.
That would be the advantage that they would not relinquish.
Defensively, Bald Eagle put a strangle hold on their side of the defense and refused to allow a return goal from the opportunistic Rams offense.
In the first, the Penns Valley offense scored first. Just minutes in, Dinges found a gap and sent a shot through past Walker at 33:58 to take the early 1-0 advantage.
But the Eagles battled back to tie the contest at one. At 13:02 Addison Tice smoked a kick that ricocheted off a Penns Valley defender to tie it.
From there, the momentum was slowly moving in the Eagles side of the field as its defense held as did the Lady Rams. The two went into the intermission stalemated at one.
In the contest Penns Valley led in shots on goal by a 18-14 margin. Both teams finished with two corners.
