Bellefonte baseball opens with shut out win over rival Bald Eagle Area

What a way to start the season.

In its season opener, the Bellefonte Red Raiders Varsity went up against rival Bald Eagle Area on the road, winning 7-0 on Monday. The Red Raiders got strong pitching as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout.

After three innings of scoreless action, the Red Raiders plated one.

Dylan Dann ended the game on the mound.

Bellefonte would add a run in the fifth and sixth upping its lead to 3-0.

The Red Raiders Varsity put the game out of reach as it plated four runs to notch the victory in the final stanza.

Nick Capparelle, Zach Swanger, Seth Shuey, and Trevor Johnson each had RBIs in the final stanza.

The Red Raiders’ bats were led by Capparelle, Swanger, Shuey, and Johnson, all driving in runs in the inning.

Shuey tallied the victory on the night as he came close to picking up the complete game before being taken out after six and two-thirds innings.

He allowing only two hits and while striking out 10. Dann threw one-third of an inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Williamson was on the mound for Bald Eagle Area. Williamson surrendered four runs on four hits over six and a third innings, striking out seven. Gavlock threw two-thirds of an inning in relief.

The Bellefonte Red Raiders notched eight hits on the day. Johnson, Shuey, and Capparelle each collected multiple hits for The Red Raiders. Capparelle, Shuey, and Johnson each picked up two hits to lead the offense.
