Bellefonte boys loses overtime thriller against Central Mountain

BELLEFONTE – They battled to the bitter end.

The season came to an end Monday night for the Bellefonte boys soccer team as they fell in a heartbreaking 1-0 overtime loss to Central Mountain.

It would be the Wildcats Evan Cross that scored the only goal of the night as he was the lucky recipient of a ball and placed it just out of the hands of the Bellefonte goalie with 12:15 left in the overtime period.

Central Mountain outshot Bellefonte 17-15 while Bellefonte led in corner opportunities by a 3-1 margin.

In the beginning of the game, the Wildcats controlled the ball early and placed the ball numerous times at the Red Raiders goal area. However, the defensive backfield was able to clear the ball away without any goals.

Central Mountain’s back-third was just as successful as the Wildcats also kept the Raiders off the board.

In the second half, both teams took their games up a notch and each play down the field had both teams holding their breath in anticipation.

At the end of regulation, both teams were playing at a fever pace and neither could find a way to post a shot through the net.

It would be a heartbreaking goal in the overtime period for Bellefonte as Cross’s shot when in.
