Bellefonte boys soccer team takes title

A striking finish.

It was quite a championship game for the Bellefonte boys soccer team as they defeated Penns Valley and then a scrappy Saint Joseph’s Academy team to capture the Bald Eagle Area season opening tournament Saturday to officially opening the 2021 regular season.

In the championship game, the Raiders were dominant, winning 6-0 in the title tilt.

Things were tough in the team’s opener against Penns Valley as it touched out a 3-1 victory.

In the first half, Bellefonte came out firing at the Rams goal.

With 28:01 left in the half, Shea Chapman sent a shot that hit nothing but net, giving the Raiders a 1-0 advantage.

Bellefonte continued to attack the Rams back-third and at 13:54 the Raiders again found itself with another goal. This one was by Hayden Walker, upping the lead going into the intermission, 2-0.

Penns Valley took over the momentum for the last 10 minutes of the game as they were able to get four shot attempts at the goal.

Coming out of the intermission, Penns Valley came out on a mission to try to get back into the contest.

They did just that as Nate Long was able to win a battle in front of the Bellefonte net to cut the lead to 3-1.

But later, the Red Raiders battled back to regain the 2-goal lead when Walker hit a shot at the goal but it bounced off the side post and went right into the sights of Andy Gersenko and he put the shot away, upping the lead to 3-1 and ending the scoring on the day.
