Bellefonte girls raise $1500 to local charity

BELLEFONTE – Monday, before their contest against Central, the Lady Raiders Basketball completed their annual Shoot-A-Thon fundraiser this year, and was proud to honor the local Bob Perks Fund with this years donation of $1500 to be donated to the care and support of local breast cancer patients and their families.

The group held its annual hoop shoot.

In the end, the Lady Raiders fell to the Dragons 49-19 in their home gym in a Laurel Highlands match up to end the season.

Leading the offense for Bellefonte was Abby Herr with a 7-point effort.

On the night, Bellefonte led in rebounds 45-28.

However, the Dragons were able to get some strong scoring efforts by Marah Dickson 12-point performance as well as teammate Dessa Boyles. Rounding out the top scorers for Central was Lila Imes with nine.

It was a game that the young Red Raiders were able to get some more valuable experience in its next to last game of the season.

“We were getting some experience for our girls for next year,” said Bellefonte girls Marissa Ward. “They’re stepping up. I like the way they are stepping up.”

In the first, the Dragons jumped out to a 5-0 lead.

Dickson got the scoring started with a shot in the lane.

On the following Dragon possession, Adyson Poet was fouled while shooting a lay up, making it a 3-point attempt. She hit the lone bucket.

The bucket would cause the Lady Raiders to call a time out with 6:26 left in the period.

Addie Imes followed with hitting 1-of-2 from the line.

Lexi Brown hit a string bucket inside, cutting it to a 4-point Central lead with 2:00 minutes left in the period.

Central added a free throw to end the quarter with a 7-2 advantage.

The Dragons quickly got things going in the second when Lyla Imes scored on a runner in the lane.

Bellefonte responded with an offensive putback by Abby Herr, making it a 9-4 Dragons lead.

From there, the Central offense started to heat up as it extended its lead to an 18-4 lead via a 9-0 run.

In the run, the Lasy Dragons got triples from Maddie Benton and Imes.

Bellefonte notched only two free throws to end the Lady Raiders scoring.

When the two teams went into the intermission, Central led 22-6.

When the dust settled in the quarter, the Dragons outscored the Red Raiders 15-4.

Bellefonte tried to regain some momentum as they held the Dragons to just nine points.

However, the Lady Raiders only was able to muster five in the period.

In the final period, the Dragons continued to extend its lead.

Central clinched things as they outscored the feisty Red Raiders 18-8 en route to the 49-19 victory.
