Bellefonte Lady Raiders defeats scrappy Juniata squad in D6 title tilt

BELLEFONTE- In their first meeting for District 6 gold, the Juniata Lady Indians went head-to-head against returning champion Bellefonte.
Playing with a lot of fresh faces on the this year’s squad, the Lady Indians hung tough, trailing 2-1 through 4 2/3 innings.
Picking up the win for Bellefonte was Adrienne Masullo.
However, the quick scoring Lady Raiders plated four more runs with two outs to muscle out the 6-1 victory, giving them the championship extending their season.
Jaylee Lose led the way as she hit her 10th home run, tying a team record. She also finished the game with three hits on the night.
Offensively, Regan Lowrey had both his for the Lady Indians.
Juniata took the lead first, posting a run in the first.
Lowrey reached on a blast past shortstop. She moved up to second on a wild pitch.
She moved up to third on a fielders choice.
Lowrey scored on a Sophie smith perfect suicide squeeze bunt to score Lowrey in the 1st.
The Indians held the lead until the bottom of third.
Bellefonte knotted the game at one.
Taylor Brown reached on an error.
Lose singled Brown to third, setting the stage for Riley Santostefano. Santostefano blasted a sacrifice fly to centerfield, allowing Brown to score from third.
Things exploded for the Red Raiders offense in the fourth.
Masullo got things started blasting a double.
Sloan Moore followed with a double of her own, scoring Masullo on the play.
Moore moved up to third on a Sadie Ripka groundout.
Alaina Smith was hit by a pitch, putting runners on the corners. Brown followed with a fielders choice RBI, scoring teammate Moore, upping the lead to 3-1.
With two on, Lose was clutch under pressure as she blasted a strong home run over the centerfield fence.
That would be all that the Red Raiders would need as they held onto to a 6-1 win.
Despite falling to the Red Raiders, the Indians’ future looks bright as it showed that they left everything they had on the field.
The future remains bright for the Lady Raiders as well as they head to the next round sporting a record of 15-2.
