Bellefonte stands as D6 champion; drops Penn Cambria

ALTOONA – Call them the champs!!

The Bellefonte offense struck early and often Tuesday afternoon as they dominated their District 6 Championship game against Penn Cambria 12-3.

Picking up the victory for the Red Raiders was Seth Shuey as he went five innings while teammate Derek Fravel to mop things off in the final two innings. Both were successful.

Shuey finished with four strikeouts.

Derek Fravel finished with two strikeouts.

Shuey sent the side down with just one blemish in the innings a the Panther notched a run in the top of the first.

Nick Capparelle got things started in the right direction in the bottom of the opening inning.

He later scored on a Derek Fravel hit. Fravel moved to second. Shuey walked and was replaced on the base pass by Harry Horner.

With two outs Fravel moved up to third while Horner remained at first.

But both would be stranded.

Bellefonte picked up another run in the second when Triston Heckman singled in Stephen Icivic, making it 2-1 after two.

Penn Cambria tied it in the third.

Bellefonte picked up a run early in the bottom of the fourth, taking the lead at 3-2, then Zach Swanger reached third setting the stage for Kormanic.

Kormanic singled in Swanger upping it to 4-2. Icivic replaced him on the base paths.

Heckman singled allowing Icivic to move up to third.

Icivic upped the score to 5-2 while Heckman moved to third.

Going into the fifth, Bellefonte led 5-2.

In the top of the fifth, Garrett Harrold led things with a 2-out walk. He moved up to second. Doubling in Harrold was Vinny Chirdon, closing the deficit to 5-3.

In the bottom of the fifth, Bellefonte added an insurance run, upping the lead to 6-3.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Red Raider bats caught fire as it broke open a close contest with a 6-run inning.

That would be all the Red Raiders would need, taking the championship by a final of 12-3.
