Bellefonte Surge Past St. Marys Flying Dutchmen Thanks To Big Fourth Inning

The Bellefonte baseball team scored five runs in the fourth inning, which helped them defeat St. Marys Flying Dutchmen 8-0 on Wednesday at Governor’s Park.
Evan Mattern singled, scoring one run, Oliver Thornburg singled, scoring one run, Zach Lehman singled, scoring one run, and Parker Capparelle singled, scoring two runs.
Bellefonte got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Thornburg singled down the left field line, and Lehman doubled down the left field line, each scoring one run.
Capparelle hit a solo home run to left field in the bottom of the third for the Red Raiders.
Lehman began the game for Bellefonte. The right-handed pitcher gave up three hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out four and walking none. Ben Paul led things off on the bump for the Flying Dutchmen. The hurler allowed 11 hits and eight runs (four earned) over four innings, striking out two and walking two. Peyton Vancas pitched two innings of zero-run ball for Bellefonte in relief. The hurler surrendered zero hits, striking out three and walking none.
The Raiders amassed 11 hits in the game. Thornburg, Capparelle, Vancas, and Lehman each collected two hits for Bellefonte. Capparelle went 2-for-4 at the plate and led the team with three runs batted in.
Leadoff hitter Ben Reynolds led the Flying Dutchmen with two hits in three at bats.
Bellefonte welcomed Greater Johnstown on Friday for their next game.
