Bellefonte tops Clearfield en route to PIAA state berth
Back to defend their title.
Tuesday the Bellefonte baseball team officially punched their ticket to the PIAA state playoffs with a 4-1 win over Clearfield.
Leading the way offensively was a 2-for-3 evening by Josh Brown.
Brown also finished with an RBI.
Braedyn Kormanic came up clutch with 2RBIs and a win from the mound.
Ethan Tomasacci had the team’s only extra base hit, posting a double.
That was the third time the two teams have met this season.
Previously both teams had a win each before the deciding game.
After an early first inning run by the Bison, the Red Raiders quickly erased the Clearfield lead plating a run of their own.
Trevor Johnson was hit by a Boson offering. He later was forced out on an Isaac Gall fielders’ choice.
With two out, Levi Purnell joined Gall on base with a walk.
Brown scored Gall as hit a laser shot into centerfield, tying it at one.
Bellefonte used two pitchers on the afternoon in Kormanic and Peyton Vancas. Both kept the Bison in check throughout the contest.
The Red Raiders took the lead for good in the second inning.
With two out, Bellefonte manufactured some two out lightning.
Tomasacci got the rally started with a simple walk.
Johnson followed with a single, moving Tomasacci to third.
Vancas plastered a single, scoring Tomasacci, making it 2-1.
Kormanic’s 2RBI single put his team up by three.
That would all the Red Raiders need as they cruised to the three-run victory and another appearance in the PIAA state playoffs.
