Bellefonte tops rival Bald Eagle in boys basketball action

BELLEFONTE – Round one goes to the Raiders.

Every time the Bellefonte boys and Bald Eagle basketball teams meet on the court, fans are going to get a very physical contest and some very intense battles in the paint.

Monday night was no exception when the two locked horns for the first time this season.

Bellefonte got off to an early lead and despite the Eagles hanging around for much of the contest, the Raiders held onto the 65-46 victory at Bellefonte.

Blair Eckley-Jones was a force in the middle as he finished with a game high 24 points. He just missed finishing with a double-double by one rebound as he finished with nine.

Teammate Gannon Brungard as he was all over the court and offensively was at the right place at the right time as he was recipient of many passes down low. He finished with a 21-point effort.

Despite the loss, the Eagles were led by Blaze Angellotti who tallied 11 while teammates Kahale Burns and  Camron Watkins who both finished with 10.

In the first quarter, the Raiders opened up strong scoring 24 in the period why holding the Eagles were kept at 11.

Eckley-Jones dominated the middle as he muscled his way to 10 in the period while Brungard helped rev up the transition game also netting 10.  Teammates Ty Kroell and Alex Ebling both chipped in two in the stanza.

Kahale Burns led the Eagles as he scored a triple in the period.

Things tightened up both ways in the second as the two teams battled “tooth and nail” it would be Bald Eagle that would outscore the Raiders but it would only be by a 14-12 margin.

When the two teams went into the intermission, Bellefonte led by a close 36-25.

Try as they may, the Eagles would stay within striking distance in the third but couldn’t gain any ground as the Raiders would outscore Bald Eagle 11-10.

Things continued to simmer for Bellefonte as it distanced itself from its rival as they came out the winners of a 65-46 victory.
