Bellefonte’s Masullo helps deliver comeback victory over Tyrone

BELLEFONTE – Monday the Bellefonte softball team opened its week hosting Tyrone in its home opener.
After falling behind early 4-0, the Red Raiders bats came alive and outscored the Eagles 9-1 the rest of the way to capture the 9-5 victory.
Bellefonte pounded out 13 hits in the win.
“(She) Masullo threw great. They had each other’s back tonight,” said Bellefonte coach Erica DeVinney. “Whether it was on offense or defense we came through and really had a good night.”
Multiple hitters for the Red Raiders were Alaina Smith (3-for-4 2RBIs), Jaylee Lose (3-for-3 RBI), Taylor Brown (2-for-3 2RBIs), Brooke Swanger (2-for-4, RBI).
Picking up the win for the Red Raiders was Adrienne Masullo who continued to roll through the Tyrone line up as the game progressed. She went five complete innings allowing three runs on six hits while striking out eight.
With the win, Bellefonte improves to 2-0 on the season.
Tyrone got the scoring started in the top of the second.
Amariah Sprankle led off the inning with a walk.
She advanced to second on a wild pitch.
Lucy Fogleman moved Sprankle to third on a single blast to left field.
Teammate Ally McNelis brought home Sprankle as she bounced into an RBI fielders’ choice.
With Fogleman on third, Sage Harris hit one to right, making it a 2-0 Tyrone advantage.
Early on, Bellefonte got runners in scoring position in both innings but could not get the hit they needed to score them. That would later change.
Tyrone went up 4-0 as Harris picked up her second hit of the game. This time she picked up two more RBIs as the Eagles went up 4-0, going into the bottom of the third.
Offensively, the Lady Raiders bats started to sizzle as they took the lead for the first time via a six-run third.
Alaina Smith started off the third with a single into left field. She moved into scoring position on a wild pitch, setting the stage for Taylor Brown. Brown roped an RBI double scoring Smith.
Jaylee Lose followed with an RBI single, cutting the Bellefonte deficit to just two.
Ragan Manning followed as she was hit by a pitch, putting runners on first and second.
Riley Santostefano bounced into a fielders choice.
Brooke Swanger doubled to left, scoring Manning.
Peyton Rimmey loaded the bases with a simple walk. Masullo helped her own cause, picking up an RBI walk and tying the contest.
Sadie Ripka posted an RBI sacrifice fly, giving the Red Raiders the lead.
When the dust settled in the inning, Bellefonte had secured a 6-4 contest.
Masullo and the Bellefonte defense took over from there as they allowed one last Tyrone run.
In the sixth, the Red Raiders added three more insurance runs to secure the victory.
Tyrone went down quietly in the seventh, securing their second win of the season.
