Bellefonte’s Reichert leads Lady Raiders over Tigers

By Kenny Varner

BELLEFONTE – It was a pure senior night delight.

On the day Bellefonte Senior Tori Reichert was honored on Senior night, she helped lead the Red Raider softball team to a 3-1 defeat over a very tough Hollidaysburg team at the Red Raiders home field.

Despite trailing 1-0 after one, the Lady Raiders battled back to plate two in the third and later one in the sixth to clinch the victory.

For Bellefonte it is their seventh win in a row after starting with a 2-3 mark early on.

“We knew coming into the season it was going to take time to just put things together and get some consistency,” said Bellefonte coach Travis Foster. “The weather is finally turning nice, hopefully. We’re starting to figure things out. We still got a lot to work on. But we’re starting to figure it out.”

Picking up the win for the Lady Raiders was Josselyn Nau. Nau went the distance, allowed one run on five hits and struck out three.

Taking the loss for the tigers was Maria Malone. Malone went five innings, allowed five hits and struck out four.

Hollidaysburg led off the game scoring it one and only run.

Leading off the inning was Brianna Dawson. Dawson roped a 1-out double to start things off.

With two outs, teammate Sydney Shay brought home Dawson, giving the Tigers a 1-0.

Bellefonte was able to cut things off from there.

Despite hitting the ball hard, Bellefonte wasn’t able to cash in.

However, things changed as the Red Raiders were able to push two across.

Emma Shawley led things off plastering a shot into left field.

She moved up to second on an infield single by Madison Melius.

With runners on first and second, Reichert brought both teammates in as she landed on second with a 2-RBI double.

That would be all the Red Raiders would need as the defense took over and limited the Tigers to a limited scattering of hits through the fourth, fifth and sixth.

Still holding onto a 2-run lead, Bellefonte added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth.

Nau led off the inning with single into left field. She was replaced on the base paths by pinch runner Carley Clarkson.

With the help of a Tigers miscue, Clarkson was able to score, upping the lead to 3-1.

That would be all that Nau would need as she shut down Hollidaysburg 1-2-3 in the top of the seventh to secure their 9th win of the season.
