Belltown tops McVeytown in Babe Ruth thriller

McVEYTOWN – Much like the old saying goes, ‘It ain’t over till its over’ Belltown fell behind early on and slowly battled their way back and eventually able to defeat McVeytown in an incredible Babe Ruth baseball game.
Belltown struck first in the top of the first inning as Parker Kearns hustled his way down the third base line to score after the ball slipped past the catcher giving them a 1-0 lead.
However, McVeytown would answer in the bottom half of the inning where Zach Diehl grounded out to short but managed to bring home Hunter Bailey to even the score at one apiece.
But then in the bottom half of the third, McVeytown had themselves a big inning offensively scoring six runs in the frame.
After Bailey scored on a passed ball, Diehl then singled in Tucker Gill to make it 3-1. NaZae Traxler then singled to left field that brought home Clay Ammon. Then with the bases loaded, Elliot Yetter drew a walk to score Diehl. With the bases still loaded, Bailey drew another walk that scored Traxler before Gill drew the third straight walk that brought home Mason Krepps giving McVeytown a 7-1 lead.
McVeytown added on another in the bottom of the fourth inning where Brandon Guido hit a SAC fly to center field that drove in Traxler extending their to 8-1.
But Belltown refused to quit, as in the top of the sixth inning the Belltown bats finally got going. After Kearns scored on a passed ball, Reese Christine hammered one deep to right center for a triple that scored both JP Pannizzo and Caden Brumbaugh. Andrew Attivo singled to right to score Christine. Then Tristan Pent came off the bench with a clutch single that brought home Attivo making it a 8-6 ball game.
McVeytown answered in the bottom half of the inning with a single to center by Yetter who scored Krepps to extend the lead to 9-6.
eventh. But Belltown had other ideas as Brumbaugh singled to left that scored Pannizzo. Then with the bases loaded, Attivo was able to reach base on a fielder’s choice which allowed Brumbaugh to score making it a 9-8 ball game.
And that set the stage for Andrew Cherry who proceeded to hit a single to right field scoring both Hosterman and Attivo to give Belltown and 10-9 lead which turned into the game winning runs.
For Belltown, Attivo led at the plate going 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Cherry was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, Brumbaugh was 2-for-3 with an RBI, Christine was 1-for-3 with a triple and two runs batted in and Pannizzo was 1-for-3 with a triple.
That was when things got a little crazy as McVeytown looked to close the game out in the top of the sMcVeytown was led by Traxler was went 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI. Krepps was 2-for-3 and Yetter was 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Pitching wise, Cherry got the start for Belltown and pitched two and two-thirds innings with three strikeouts and six walks. Attivo then took over from there and was the winning pitcher going three and a third innings with two strikeouts and four walks. Brumbaugh then came in during the bottom of the seventh inning and got two strikeouts and no walks and was also rewarded with the save.
Hunter Bailey nearly went the distance going six and a third innings for McVeytown collecting six strikeouts and five walks. Gill then came in and finished the final two-thirds innings with a strikeout.
Congrats to both teams for their amazing efforts.
