Big Valley 10Us battle but falls in Sectional opener

CENTRE HALL – Big Valley 10Us baseball team opened its next chapter in its run in the post season as the group battled another unbeaten team Hershey.

In the battle of unbeatens, the two teams met up in Centre Hall in hopes of staying in the winners bracket.

In the end, the crew from Hershey was able to pull out the victory but Big Valley fought them every step of the way.

When the dust settled Hershey came out the victors of a 16-7 victory Saturday.

Hershey exploded for a 7-run second inning and was able to hold onto to the lead after a late run by Big Valley.

Big Valley finished with seven hits on the afternoon.

Liam Bender was one of the Big Valley hitters that posted hits. Others picking up hits were Jake Savitts, Aiden Goss, Izik Tate, Easton Peachey, Carter Walker and Easton Trutt.

Hershey plated two runs in the bottom of the first.

With one out, Maddox Lambert  singled.

Mason Lumberger bounced into a fielders’ choice  as Lumberger was forced out at second.

Lumberger later scored on a Luca Placers RBI single.

Starting pitcher Liam Lawerence hit a blooper to score Placers.

In the top of the second, Big Valley rallied to tie things at two.

Jake Savitts doubled on a shot down third baseline.

Starting Big Valley pitcher Liam Bender walked, putting runners on first and second.

Aiden Goss loaded the bases with a walk.

Tate brought in Savitts as he bounced into an RBI fielders choice.

Bender later scored to tie the game going into the bottom of the inning.

Things started to roll for Hershey as they posted a 7-run inning to go up 9-2.

Big Valley was held scoreless in the third.

Hershey added to its lead, posting a 2-run third, making it a nine run advantage.

But Big Valley refused to go down without a fight as the rallied to post a big inning of their own scoring four .

Bender led off with a double.

His time on base was short, scoring on a RBI triple by Goss.

Goss reached home safely thanks to a blooping single by Tate, making it an 11-4 victory.

Easton Peachey hustled his way around the bases as he sent a blazing hit past first and to the fence, post an inside -the-park home run, cutting the lead to 11-6.

When everything was said and done in the inning, Big Valley cut the lead to only four.

In the bottom of the fourth, Hershey was able to plate another.

That would be all Hershey needed as they held onto take the contest 16-7.
