Big Valley 11Us crank out 15 hits in win over Bellefonte

BELLEFONTE – It was quite debut for Sunday for the Big Valley 11-Us as they cranked out 15 hits en route to a 11-3 victory over Bellefonte in the opening round of District 5 action.
Logan Alexander led a strong Big Valley pitching performance as he allowed just two runs, three strike outs and three hits in 2 and 2/3 innings.
Combined Big Valley’s hurlers allowed seven hits and three runs.
Bellefonte got a gutsy performance from starting pitcher Parker Capparelle as he took a line drive off his face but stayed in to go into the fourth inning before being relieved.
Offensively, Big Valley was led by lead off hitter Evan Strohecker who went 3-for-4 and scored three times.
“It’s hard to beat a team that has 15 hits and only one strike out offensively and with no errors in the field,” said Big Valley coach Stephen Alexander.
Teammate Madden Weaver went 2-for-3 with 2RBIs.
Bellefonte had two multiple hitters in the contest.
Reese McCloskey went 2-for-3 and scored once.
Teammate Oliver Thornburg had two singles, run and an RBI.
Big Valley won the toss before the game, giving them the home team slot.
Strohecker led off the game with a line drive that hit off the face of Capparelle. But Capparelle recovered quickly and just missed throwing Strohecker out. Strohecker stole second and then moved up to third on a Weaver fielders’ choice.
Brayden Sunderland, who finished with 2 RBIs on the night, singled in Strohecker.
Going into the second, Big Valley led 1-0.
Alexander cruises through the first two Bellefonte at bats, giving the Big Valley defense a chance to add onto the lead.
With two outs, Jacob Bauman singled to keep the inning alive. He moved up as he stole second.
Max Weaver roped a double to score Bauman and send the game back to the top of the order.
Strohecker singles once again, putting runners on the corners.
Weaver brought both home on a single, giving Big Valley a 4-0 advantage.
Bellefonte cut into the lead in the top of the third, making the most of a two-out rally.
Cameron Lucas kept the inning going for Bellefonte by taking a walk.
Reese McCloskey, Capparelle and Bradley Mishock and Oliver Thornburg got consecutive singles to score two and cut the Big Valley lead in half, 4-2.
However, on this day, nothing was stopping the Big Valley offense.
In the bottom of the inning, Big Valley extended its lead once again, plating three more.
With one out, Logan Alexander singled to right, stole second and advanced to third via a wild pitch.
Logan Ruth smoked a liner into the outfield, scoring Alexander in the process.
Nathan Parkes kept the hitting going as he singled up the middle, sending Ruth to third.
Aiden Arnold brought in both runners when he sent a single into the outfield and then got caught in a run down long enough to score Parkes, upping the score to 7-2.
Big Valley added two runs in the fourth and fifth, taking command 11-2.
Bellefonte refused to go out without a fight as it added a run to finish the scoring of 11-3.
Big Valley will be back in action Tuesday against State College at a location to be announced.
