BMS boys, girls sweep Walnut Street Christian

BELLEVILLE – Belleville Mennonite got not one but two victories against rival Walnut Street Christian in Allegheny Christian Athletic Association soccer action.
The Thunder got to compete in girls soccer for the first time in school’s history. And what better way to start than collecting their first win of their first season in their first game.
After a little over ten minutes of the first half, another historic first happened for Belleville Mennonite as Brianna Kanagy sent a cross pass over to teammate Katelyn Ehrisman who scored the first ever goal for the Thunder.
Khrisman not only scored the first goal in the first half, but within the final three minutes of the second half, Khrisman had a shot that bounced off the Walnut Street goalkeeper only to have the ball jump right back to her and blasted the ball to the back of the net to secure the 2-0 victory for Belleville Mennonite.
Then the boys’ team took their turn as there were plenty of firsts for them as well with it being the first game under new head coach Michael Armstrong. And what better way to start then with a 7-2 victory.
Quinn Renno had his footprints all over this game as he scored the first goal of the game with an assist from Jackson Renninger.
A little while later Renno added his second goal of the game with a penalty kick. Then Renno assisted Renninger with his goal to give the Thunder a 3-0 lead.
However, Walnut Street Christian responded with a penalty kick of their own with Clark Thomas scoring the goal to make it 3-1.
Then Renno came in with an assist from Bryson Peachey collected the hat trick to give Belleville Mennonite a 4-1 lead.
Renno made his presence felt in a different way in the second half as Renno found Drew Mirello who scored his first goal of the game.
After the Warriors added another goal of their own to make it 5-2, the duo of Renno and Mirello connected again with Mirello got his second goal of the game to make it 6-2.
Renninger then scored his second goal of the game with some help from Jonah Kauffman to complete the 7-2 victory.
Congrats to both teams and good luck to everyone for the new season.
