BMS girls finish strong in win over Juniata Christian

 

PORT ROYAL – A fourth quarter offensive surge carried Belleville Mennonite over Juniata Christian by the final score of 48-36 in an Allegheny Christian Athletic Association girls basketball game Friday night over at Cedar Grove Brethren Church.

The game was tight going into the fourth quarter of the game with the Thunder up 29-25 when the offense just exploded as it appeared as though Belleville Mennonite just could not miss a basket as every single shot looked to be finding the bottom of the net.

The Lions tried to keep up with pace set by Belleville Mennonite but failed to get into their respective offense, not getting as many shot opportunities as the Thunder did in the period. Juniata Christian top scorer Erin Sheaffer who scored in every quarter threw the first three quarters was held scoreless for the final frame.

The Belleville Mennonite offense found multiple contributors in the fourth quarter as four different players scored at least four points for the period.

For Juniata Christian, Erin Sheaffer led the Lions in scoring with a team high of 13 points while Rachel Sheaffer was second on the team in scoring with seven.

As for Belleville Mennonite, the Thunder had three players who scored in double digits for the evening with Sonya Yoder leading the charge with a game high 17 points. Behind Yoder were the Renno sisters as little sister Karina scored 13 points while big sister Chloe added another 11 points for the Thunder.

Belleville Mennonite is now (5-6) overall and is now (4-3) in the ACAA and will look to keep the winning ways going on Tuesday as the Thunder will host Meadowbrook Christian.

As for Juniata Christian, the Lions will look to rebound on Tuesday as well as they will host Columbia County Christian.
