BMS girls survive contest against Juniata Christian

Belleville Mennonite 30, Juniata Christian 27
BELLEVILLE – What better way to go into the Christmas break than getting your first win as a Head Coach in another sport as Brian Renno gets his first win as Belleville Mennonite defeated Juniata Christian 30-27 in an Allegheny Christian Athletic Association girls basketball game on Tuesday.
The Thunder were down 24-20 going into the final quarter of the game. For most of the period neither Belleville Mennonite or Juniata Christian managed to get its shots to go down.
Then Karina Renno got the ball rolling for the Thunder with a big shot from the three point line and never looked back.
Big sister Chloe Renno then took her turn and found the ball inside the paint and was foul and she connected with the shot and then nailed the free throw to complete the and one and give the Thunder the lead.
Sonya Yoder then hit a foul shot to make it 30-27, but the Lions refused to quit and got the ball to the other side of the court to Erin Sheaffer who took the shot from three as time expired and the ball rolled in and out.
The Lions only scored three points in the final period all of which were foul shots. In fact, Juniata Christian made three out of seven foul shot attempts in the frame.
Juniata Christian and Belleville Mennonite each showed different philosophies at the start of the game as the Lions were looking to attack the paint while Belleville Mennonite was more of a jump shooting team.

The Thunder then went into the second quarter of the game with a completely new gameplan and began charging into the paint.

Meanwhile defensively Belleville Mennonite closed in on the Juniata Christian offense as the Thunder refused to allow any pass down low taking the Lions out of their rhythm. Juniata Christian was held to just three points in the quarter and was holding onto a 15-14 lead at the half.

Chloe Renno and Sonya Yoder led the way for Belleville Mennonite as Yoder scored a game high of 14 points. Renno had dropped in nine more points for the evening.
Erin Sheaffer was the top scorer for Juniata Christian as she scored 12 points for the night. Emily Sheaffer was second with five points.
Belleville Mennonite is now (1-2) and will travel to Halifax against Halifax for the Christmas tournament while Juniata Christian travels to January 3 at Susquenita.
