Burnham bats heat up late to take 12-3 win over Milroy

After falling behind early in their contest to Milroy, the Burnham offense heated up outscoring their opponent 12-1 the rest of the way for the 12-3 Babe Ruth victory.

Picking up the win was Tye Plank as he spread out three runs on four hits.

In the first, Milroy struck first, posting two runs to take the lead.

Cole Chilson reaches on a Burnham miscue.

He moved to third on Tucker Crum’s single to right field. Crum stole second on the first pitch to Ryan Kanagy.

Kanagy blasted a RBI sacrifice fly, making it 1-0.

With Crum moving up to this on Kanagy’s sacrifice, Hunter Marks brought in Crum as he also hit a sacrifice fly, upping it to 2-0.

In the bottom of the inning, Burnham managed just a double to centerfield by Reagan Ettinger.

But pitcher Crum and his Milroy teammates refused to allow a run in the inning, giving them the lead going into their second at bats.

Plank settled in in the second, dropping Milroy 1-2-3.

Burnham rallied back in the second, posting five runs in the inning to take the lead for the first time.

Calin McKnight singled past third base. He later stole second.

Gavin Knode followed with a single to right, allowing McKnight to move to third. McKnight took advantage of a wild pitch and scored his team’s first run.

Myka Simmons put two on the bases with a walk.

Logan Alexander sent a soft single, loading the bases.

Plank walked in Knode for an RBI, tying the contest.

Farrell Souders followed with an RBI walk of his own, scoring Simmons on the free pass.

Clean up hitter Reagan Ettinger was hit by a pitch, notching an RBI.

Xavier Smith ended the second inning scoring notching an RBI walk of his own.

After the dust settled, Burnham built up a 5-2 advantage.

Milroy closed the gap a little in the third.

Kanagy started things off with a smoking single into left. He stole second and moved up to third on a throwing error.

Hunter Mark’s blasted an RBI single past short, making it a 5-3 contest.

Milroy held Burnham scoreless in the third.

Burnham returned the favor refusing to give up another run.

The “Red and Blue” added to its lead in the bottom of the fourth.

Plank sparked the inning with a lead off double.

Souders followed with a walk while Plank stole third.

Ettinger sent a deep sacrifice fly to deep center, adding to their lead.

Souders would later score thanks to Milroy miscue.

Smith was hit by a pitch and moved to second on a stolen base then scored via the same error.

McKnight kept the inning rolling hustling out another miscue.

Knode made it count as he hit a laser to left field, making it a 9-3 contest.

From there Burnham shut down the Milroy offense and added three more runs en route to the 12-3 victory.
