Burnham notches opening day win over McVeytown

Burnham Babe Ruth vs. McVeytown…Mifflin County Jr. Babe Ruth Lg, Burnham Babe Ruth ran off with the lead late in the game in a 10-7 victory over Mifflin County Mcveytown on Wednesday. The game was tied at seven with Burnham batting in the bottom of the sixth when Farrell Souders tripled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.

Both pitching staffs had their hands full, frequently dealing with runners on base.  Burnham collected 12 hits and Mcveytown had five.

Mcveytown got things started in the first inning. Gill drove in one when he doubled.

Burnham knotted the game up at seven in the bottom of the fifth inning. An error scored one for Burnham.

Burnham put up five runs in the fifth inning. Souders, Garrett Davis, Calin Mcknight, and Gavin Knode powered the big inning with RBIs.

Mcknight earned the win for Burnham. He surrendered zero runs on zero hits over three and two-thirds innings, striking out three.

Beaston took the loss for Mcveytown. He lasted two innings, allowing nine hits and seven runs while striking out two and walking one.

Davis started the game for Burnham. He allowed five hits and seven runs over three and a third innings, striking out three Bailey started the game for Mcveytown. He lasted two and two-thirds innings, allowing one hit and one run while striking

Burnham racked up 12 hits in the game. Mcknight, Souders, Reagan Ettinger, and Xavier Smith all collected multiple hits for Burnham. Mcknight led Burnham Jr Babe with three hits in four at bats.

Mcveytown tore up the base paths, as two players stole at least two bases. Rishel led the way with two.
