WINGATE – Turning up the heat!
Bald Eagle Area’s quarterback Carson Nagle had his team’s offensive game revving on all cylinders Friday as they met up with a familiar foe Penns Valley.
Nagle posted a 25-35 performance for 431 yards in the Eagles 49-7 victory over the Rams.
The defense allowed only eight yards rushing on the night and limited the Penns Valley passing game to 129 yards.
Defensively, the Eagles clogged the gap and put pressure on the young Rams offense.
Carnell Noone finished with a strong outing rushing for 68 yards and recorded 79 yards receiving.
Nagle was able to find receiver Kollin Cunningham eight times for 127 yards.
The Rams were led by big plays by Spencer Althouse who scored Penns Valley’s lone touchdown and captured two catches for 73 yards.
“I think we played okay. I think we made some mistakes. I don’t think we’re as focused as we should have been. We have to clean that up,” said Bald Eagle coach Jesse Nagle. “I thought we were too loose at practice. We missed opportunities..we got to clean that up. plain and simple. They’re (Penns Valley) a young team and we are too. But at the end of the day it’s game three you have to start growing. You have to start developing. Hopefully we do a good job next week going through the preparation and all that and we need to refocus as we head to Tyrone.”
Bald Eagle took control of things late in the first quarter.
After getting the ball on their own 28, Nagle led a charge downfield that would march down on a 13-play drive.
Facing a fourth and goal from the 19,
Carson Nagle threw a 20-yard TD dart to Kollin Cunningham. With the Matthew English kick at 4:27, the Eagles started to click.
In the second quarter, the Eagles went into high gear scoring 22 points in the stanza.
After another lengthy drive by the Eagles, Nagle handed off the ball to Carnell Noone. Noone busted his way through the defense and into the end zone via a 2-yard run. The Eagles started to gather the momentum with 11:03 left until the intermission.
Even when Bald Eagle made a mistake, they still were able to make it a positive.
Driving the ball deep into the Rams end of the field, Nagle threw an interception in the end zone that was later turned into a safety due to the heads up play by the Eagles after the turnover.
Nagle and company continued to focus throwing the ball down the field.
At 2:54, the home team scored once again. This time, Nagle launched it to Gradyn Fisher for 38-yards TD catch,2:54.
But the Eagles weren’t done quite yet.
The defense forced the Rams to a 3-and-out with time ticking off the clock.
Bald Eagle ran its 2-minute drill to perfection, adding one more touchdown pass through the air when Nagle threw a 4-yard pass to Wyatt Spackman with 0:04 left in the first. Penns Valley’s defense was able to penetrate the extra point attack, and blocked the kick, making it a 29-0 advantage at the half.
Coming out of the halftime, the Wagles got the ball and put the mercy rule into effect at 10:54 in the third.
Nagle once again posted a TD pass to Noone 51-yard TD catch.
Noone added a 30-yard run late to take the commanding lead with 1:57 left in the third.
Penns Valley got themselves on the board late when quarterback Colby Miller threw a 65-yard TD pass to Spencer Althouse. With the Riley Winkleblech kick, Penns Valley was finally on the board at 7:49.
Ethan Hoover’s 10-yard run was the last score of the ball game , giving Bald Eagle Area the victory.
