Carson: Pa. Power Wrestling announces rankings; local areas well represented

PA Power Wrestling released its first rankings of the New Year,and 23 wrestlers from Mifflin, Centre, and Juniata counties made the list.

Leading the way in Class 3A is Jude Swisher of Bellefonte. The Red Raider senior holds the top spot at 145 pounds, thanks to a solid win over returning PIAA champion Finn Solomon at the King of the Mountain back in December. The University of Pennsylvania recruit and two-time PIAA place-winner is currently 14-0 on the season and 110-17 for his career.

Senior Aidan O’Shea is No. 13 at 132 for Bellefonte.

State College features five in the rankings led by sophomore Pierson Manville, No. 3 at 138. Sophomore Nicholas Pavlechko (No. 5 at 215), freshman Asher Cunningham (No. 10 at 120), senior Braden Newby (No. 16 at 172), and junior Carter Weaverling (No. 24 at 189) round out the list.

Mifflin County placed five in the rankings anchored by seniors Nic Allison (No. 5 at 113) and Kyler Everly (No. 8 at 160). Everly recorded a signature victory over Central Dauphin’s Ryan Garvick at KOTM.

Seniors Trey Shoemaker (No. 11 at 189), and Jaxson Pupo (No. 13 at 285), along with junior Hunter Johnson (No. 23 at 120),complete the Husky contingent.

Junior Casey Smith is the lone representative for Juniata with a No. 22 ranking at 120 pounds.

Mifflin County is No. 12 in the team rankings. State College, Bellefonte, and Juniata are not in the Top 25.

Class 2A

Junior Coen Bainey heads the Bald Eagle Area squad, holdingthe number one spot at 120 pounds. Bainey, fourth in the state a year ago, is 13-3 on the season.

Other ranked wrestlers for the Eagles include sophomore Lucas Fye, who has a big win over Allison (No. 10 at 113), freshman Gavin Guenot (No. 17 at 106), and senior Noah Fultz (No. 19 at 189). BEA is ninth in the team rankings.

Penns Valley has four ranked wrestlers: freshman Jack Darlington (No. 8 at 106), senior Cole Felker at 172, and sophomores Ty Watson (No. 16 at 145), and Colton Shunk (No. 18 at 120).

Senior Austin Foster (No. 9 at 152) and sophomore Marcus Gable (No. 17 at 138) represent Philipsburg-Osceola.
