Central holds onto to second half lone for win over Penns Valley

The Central girls soccer team took a close 1-0 victory over Penns Valley Monday night.

“This was just one of those nights where we weren’t at our best and Central punished a big mistake of ours in the back,” said Penns Valley coach Andrew Beverly. Overall it was a close game, back and forth but in the end we just weren’t good enough to get the win tonight.

After a scoreless first half Central’s Alyssa Bartley thanks to an assist by Averey Black put her team in the win column at 45:10.

Penns Valley outshot the Dragons 19-9.

“If we showed some more composure on the ball and looked to play a little simpler, then we could have seen a different result.  Despite not playing our best, we were still in the game and pushing for an equalizer all the way to the end but it just wasn’t our night, said Beverly. “We now have to move on and get ready for two more tough games to end the regular season.”

Penns Valley goalie Kylie Auman had five saves while Central’s Katryn Longenecker finished with 11.

Penns Valley tallied four corners while Central had none.

Penns Valley’s record is now 11-3 and 9-3 in the Mt League.  The Lady Rams’ next game is Wednesday at Clearfield.
