Dragons sink Lady Raiders in defensive contest

Despite a strong defensive effort, the Bellefonte girls basketball team could not get past a tough Central team Thursday, falling 39-27.

Leading the way offensively were Sara DeHaas and Mallorie Smith both with 10.

The Dragons were led in scoring by Erin Brumbaugh with 13 while teammate Kylie Metzger had 12.

“It was a great defensive effort from the team. I am very proud of what the team was able to do tonight with a very short bench,” said Bellefonte coach Marcus Toomer. “Central had to work for all 39 points tonight and I believe this effort will propel us moving forward.”

Bellefonte opened the game by outscoring Central 13-12.

However, the Dragons battled back in the second taking the momentum in a 10-5 period.

Central went into the intermission leading 22-18.

But Central outscored Bellefonte 17-9 en route to the victory.

Currently the Lady Red Raiders are posting a 6-11 record and it will be in action at Penns Valley Tuesday the 28th.
