COCOLAMUS – Less than 24 hours after falling by nine against Southern Huntingdon, the East Juniata girls basketball team found itself back on the hardwood to take on Bellefonte in the second day of the Juniata County Tip-off Classic.
Playing with a very short memory of the night before, the Tigers rebounded positively as it took care of the Lady Raiders by 19, 52-33.

“We made lots of good shots today. Laurel played well and I thought Erin Heimbach played well,” East Juniata coach Travis Quici said. “We are getting this kids starting to play well. It was a nice turnaround today. Bellefonte has a real aggressive team so we weren’t sure what to expect. They hit us with that zone and caught us a little off guard. But we were able to make some adjustments and get some easy lay ups out of it.”
East Juniata wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, posting three triples in the first three minutes to take an early 11-2 advantage. Amey hit two of the three while Meghan Shilling hit one.
Bellefonte tried to scrap its way back into the ball game going on a 5-1 run, cutting it to a 12-7 deficit but East Juniata picked up the last points of the period on Heimbach’s two shots from the charity stripe, ending the first quarter with the 14-7 advantage.
Both teams battled back in fourth in the second as Bellefonte would find itself in striking distance of the lead only to see the Tigers get a hot hand and e tend its lead back to double digits. That would happen twice before the Lady Raiders would cut it to a 29-20 deficit at the intermission.
After halftime, Bellefonte got it to as close as seven thanks to a inside runner by Abbie Carr, making it 29-22 with 7:46 left in the third.
East Juniata started to make its move once again forcing turnovers en route to an 8-0 run.
In that run, Alyssa Hibbs attacked the basket scoring four tough points inside the paint.
    However, the Lady Raiders would
also hurt themselves by getting in foul trouble early in the third, picking up five in the first three and a half minutes.
Hobbs and company continued to roll as East Juniata continued its scoring run, finishing out the rest of the third quarter on a 7-1 run, icing the game at 44-23.
Offensively, the Tigers were led in the third period by Hibbs’ six points and Heimbach’s four, Haley Lash rounded out the top scorers with three.
Despite outscoring the Tigers 10-8 in the final stanza, it just wasn’t enough for Bellefonte to make a comeback and ended up on the bad end of a 52-33 contest.
Earlier in the day, Bellefonte took the JV contest 25-16.
