Feltman, Lady Tigers hold off UDA in defensive contest

East Juniata 29, Upper Dauphin 25

COCOLAMUS – The East Juniata Tigers gutted out a victory over the Upper Dauphin Trojans by the final score of 29-25 in a Tri-Valley League girls basketball game on Thursday night.

The game was close every step of the way, as the Tigers came into the fourth quarter with a slim 20-18 lead over the Trojans.

Anytime East Juniata was able to pull away, Upper Dauphin answered with a run of its own and kept the game close.

Then with just 36.6 seconds remaining in the game, Gracie Griffiths of Upper Dauphin nailed a mid-range jumper to make the game a 26-25 East Juniata lead.

Cypress Feltman then took the ball and was running up the court and managed to get a lot of the time off the clock before being fouled for a one and one opportunity. Feltman took advantage and made her first and then made her second to put the Tigers up 28-25.

The Trojans then rushed down the court and tried to fire off some shots but the East Juniata defense stood firm and the ball eventually dropped into the arms of Sara Brackbill who tried to get away but was fouled for another one and one situation with under five seconds to play. All Brackbill needed was to make one foul shot and she did just that to put the game on ice.

In fact, the Tigers were much better in the fourth quarter at the foul line than they did for the first three quarters combined as in the fourth quarter, East Juniata connected with seven of eight shots at the free throw line. While in the first three quarters, the Tigers only scored two out of eight attempts. East Juniata made nine of 16 shots from the line for the whole game.

Feltman led East Juniata with a team high of nine points while Brackbill and Lexie Stuck added five points each.

The Tigers also won in the JV game against Grier with the final score of 37-10.

East Juniata (5-6) travels to face Millersburg Saturday.
