Foxpro falls short on comeback attempt

By Joshua Yoder
LEWISTOWN – Despite a late comeback attempt, the Predators of Foxpro went just short in their 6-5, loss to the Spring Mills Braves during CCBL baseball action Sunday afternoon over at Mifflin County High School.
After the Braves took a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first, Foxpro responded with two runs in the bottom half of the same inning.
With one out, Austin Dunlap drew a walk, but he didn’t stay at first base for very long as Isaiah Kearns launched a mammoth of a shot over the left center fence to give the Predators a 2-1 lead.
But Spring Mills had a big inning of their own as in the top of the third inning, the Braves tacked on three runs in the frame.
Braves’ pitcher Rylan Bailey helped himself with a single that scored Corbin Homan to even the game up at two apiece. However Kearns managed to get the next two batters out via strikeout and looked to keep the damage to a minium.
However, Jarret Stover came up with a clutch two RBI single to right field which gave Spring Mills a 4-2 lead.
The Braves added another run in the top half of the fifth inning as Colten Treaster reached on an infield single that brought home Bryce Dobson.
The Predators returned fire in the bottom half of the same inning as Kearns once again launched another rocket into outer space for a solo home run.
Spring Mills added on one more run in the top of the seventh where Jordan Brennan grounded out to first, but managed to bring in Treaster.
Foxpro wasn’t going to go away quietly as in the bottom of the frame, Dan Brundage hit a SAC fly which scored Kearns before a Josh Rosefsky singled in Evan Pupo to put the Predators within one of the Braves.
With two outs and the bases loaded, Jaxson Pupo came to the plate and look to at least even the score up. But ultimately, Pupo flew out to right field to end the game.
Kearns led Foxpro at the plate and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two home runs. Evan Pupo and Rosefsky each had multiple hits in the game as well.
The Braves were led by Stover who was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a double. Treaster also went 2-for-3 which also included a double.
Both teams will be traveling to face the Blanchard Bees but on different days. Spring Mills will meet them on Tuesday while Foxpro will face the Bees on Thursday.
