Gaisior K’s 19, Juniata tops Richland in opening round of D6 action

MIFFLINTOWN- Moving on!!!

The Juniata softball team opened its first round of District 6 action with a strong victory over a feisty Richland team, 6-0 in front of the home crowd Monday afternoon.

In true Indians fashion, defense took center stage as phenom pitcher Liz Gaisior was locked in tossing a one hitter.

She posted a whopping 19 batters en route to the victory.

At the plate, Gaisior was also a strong force as she finished with a 3-for-4 performance with an RBI.

Teammate Savannah Marshall,  Shalelyn Armstrong and Alexa Kuhns all finished with multiple hits with two and an RBI each.

In the first, the Lady Indians went right to work.

Regan Lowrey walked and over to second on a Marshall single.

Armstrong was clutch under pressure roping a scorching single, allowing Lowrey to score and Marshall to move to third. However, they would be stranded as the in inning concluded.

Both defenses controlled the narrative in the second and third inning, setting the stage for an explosive fourth inning by the home team.

Juniata’s big inning came as the Lady Indians offense finished with four runs crossing the plate.

Armstrong led off the inning with another single.

Victoria Moore took advantage of a Rams miscue to reach base.

Coach Craig Bubb went small ball on an RBI bunt single by Sophia Smith.

With Armstrong scoring, Moore moved up to third. Moore hustled in as she scored on a wild pitch, upping the Juniata lead to 3-0.

Kuhn singles in Smith to add some breathing room, 4-0.

Gaisior capped the inning with an RBI double to left, scoring teammate Kuhn.

That would be all the runs that the Juniata defense needed.

But for good measures, Juniata added another insurance run in the sixth to allow the Lady Indians to win game one of their defense of their D6 title.
