Gaisior strikes out 15 in loss to Halifax

MIFFLINTOWN – For six innings, the Juniata softball team was keeping within striking distance, trailing 5-1 going into the final inning in their contest versus Halifax Friday.

However, the Wildcats came out and plated eight runs in the seventh to record the 13-1 victory.

Juniata pitcher Elizabeth Gaisior had a strong outing striking out 15 over seven.

Defensively, the Indians allowed most of the Halifax runs by miscues , sporting six errors.

Offensively, Lexi Frontz and Mackenzie Lyter both went 2-3, and Alyvia Risban, Elizabeth Gaisior, Shalelyn Armstrong, and Presley Goodwin each added hits for Juniata.

The Wildcats Hannah Kopland  paced her team with two doubles, a triple and a home run and finished with two RBIs while scoring four times in the game.

In the first and second innings, Gaisior struck out six of the first nine batters.

Juniata punched the game’s first hit when Gaisior smoked a liner back the middle.

However, she would be stranded there.

In the third inning, Alysa Steinhavel led off the inning with a single.

She and teammate Kopland scored on a double and an a Juniata miscue, putting the Wildcats ahead 2-0.

Halifax scored another run in the top of the third.

But in the bottom of the inning the Lady Indians would get on the scoreboard.

Shalelyn Armstrong got her team kick started as she posted a single into left.

She scored on a blast to left centerfield by MacKenzie Lyter for an RBI double.

But that would all the Indians could muster as the Wildcats would score the next eight runs en route to the victory.

Juniata falls on the year to record of 2-9 while Halifax is now 9-3.
