Grace Prep wins 1-0 nail biter over Great Commision

After a scoreless first half, the Grace Prep girls soccer team posted a strong defense and a clutch offensive performance, survived a 1-0 nail biter versus Great Commission. 

There was No scoring in the first half. Both teams were still looking for that clutch goal to give them the momentum.

In the 2nd half, Grace was able to get that goal, putting them on the board. 

In the 60th minute,  Abigael Fisher scored off a penalty kick (The kick was the result of a foul on Amaryah Haushalter in the box.  Amaryah was aggressively battling for the ball and the opponent was whistled for a push in the back.  Good things happen when you’re aggressive in the opponents 18.

Grace Prep led in shots by a 12-4 advantage. 

In the Corner Kicks, Prep also held a 2-0 advantaged.

Both teams tied in Indirect Kicks as 

Grace Prep and Great Commission both had three. 

In Direct Kicks, both teams finished with one.

In Keeper Saves, Grace Prep’s Makayla Ley tallied three key saves

While Great Commission’s keeper registered 10 saves – she was very strong in goal.

“The field was in fantastic condition and the weather was great (maybe a little warm).  The Centre Region Parks and Recreation grounds team does a fantastic job with the field and Homestead Park – one of the best sites we play on all season.

The Grace Prep Storm had many opportunities and some very nice shots on goal, but just couldn’t get the ball past the solid play of Great Commission’s keeper,” said Grace Prep coach Jason Fisher said.

“With the win the Storm redeemed themselves from a 2-1 loss to Great Commission earlier in the season.”

Grace Prep’s next game is September 27th at 3:30 p.m. versus Blair County Christian in Altoona.
