Grove’s patience at the plate and Supelco’s comeback attempt stopped by Mother Nature

Patience proved powerful Thursday night as the Grove Printing Minor League team met up with a tough Supelco team.

The game would be ruined and stopped in the fourth inning by Mother Nature’s wrath with Grove’s taking the 12-6 contest.

However, the Supelco team showed its “Never say quit” attitude as they rallied back from a 12-1 deficit to cut it to 12-6 before the game was called.

Grove’s got a great outing by pitcher Coley Price as she went 2 1/3 innings allowing one run on one hit while striking out five for the win.

Picking up hits for the winners were Blake Glace and Levi Gall. Both also  finished with an RBI each while Glacé scored twice on the evening.

Lily Park led the way in the RBI department with two RBIs, both were walks with the bases loaded.

Supelco finished with three hits for the home team.

They were Linden Fost, Hayden Gray and TJ Novitsky. Gray led the way with 2RBIs.

Groves started off the contest with patient bats as Brayden Ripka and Blake Glace walked.

Gall singled in RIpka with a single.

Price followed with a walk to load the bases.

Hayden Glace followed in Price’s footsteps as he picked up an RBI on a walk that would score Blake Glace, upping the lead to 2-0.

With the bases loaded Grove’s took advantage of a Supelco miscue to clear the bases, ending the inning with a 5-run first.

In the bottom of the inning, Harrison Hoover got Supelco started with a walk and he later would steal second and third. He then would score home on a pitch that got away from the catcher.

But that would be the only run that Supelco would be able to score, going into second trailing 5-1.

It would be another lucrative second inning for Grove’s once again as they managed for the second inning in-a-row, upping its lead to 10-1.

Unfortunately for Supelco in the bottom of the inning they went down in order because of the pitching of Price and the Grove’s defense.

Supelco tightened its defense in the third, allowing only two in the inning which would set the stage as the momentum would turn to their corner in the bottom of the inning.

Things got a little closer as Supelco got its bats going and when the dust settled, the home team rallied for five runs of their own.

Carter Guindon led things off with a walk.

With one out, Hoover once again reached base on a walk of his own.

Linden Fost also walked.

With runners on first and second,  Novitsky blasted a tough chopper to third and all advanced safely to load the bases.

With runners on second and third, Hoover once again blazed his way home, making it a 12-3 game.

Gray blasted a single to left field, picking up 2RBIs and cutting the Grove’s lead to cut things even closer at 12-5.

He would later score on a walk with the bases loaded by Ruger Auman.

Going into the fourth with renewed confidence, it would be a group of lightning strikes that would end the comeback attempt just short and ended the new excitement that both teams possessed.

Both walked off with moral victories.
