Heart of a Champion: Despite injury a Sechler finishes in top 10 in State in the Javelin

A courageous effort!!!

Mifflin County’s  Josiah Sechler finished 9th in the Javelin with a throw of 173’ 5”.

The returning state champion showed the heart of a champion even competing in the event as the senior was battling injury when competing at the PIAAs State track and field championships Saturday at Shippensburg University.

“Our second day at States, Josiah took to the field in javelin. He battled through a partial tear to his UCL to get to this point,” said MIfflin County coach Tamara Sechler.

In his first throw, he was able to get it out to the 180 mark, but it was out of the sector. Although he was still able to get two more throws out to the 170 mark, his elbow would not let him finish his last throw.

“This season was not an easy one, emotionally or physically,” said Sechler. “I am so proud of him for pushing through so many obstacles and still getting to be top ten in the state.”
