BELLEFONTE – Quite a tradition.

It’s a tradition of giving back to our heroes.

For over 10 years, the Bellefonte girls basketball team has been taking their time and efforts to give back to local hero’s that have dedicated their lives so everyone can be free, the Military veterans.

Each season, the Lady Raiders hold a shoot-a-thon to help raise money to support their heroes.

“A few weeks ago our Lady Raiders participated in a shoot-a-thon fundraiser,” said Bellefonte coach  Marcus Toomer. “Our athletes collected pledges for each shot they made out of 100 attempts.  Tonight we’re excited to donate a portion of those funds raised to the Centre County Veterans Assistance Fund. “

The group again had another successful year as they presented a check for $1,000 raised by the dedicated players and coaches from the team.

Monday the Lady Raiders Basketball Booster Club welcomed fans to the Bellefonte gym for Military Appreciation Night before their varsity game against Penns Valley.

“Tonight we recognize those who have selflessly protected and served our country,” said Toomer.

Receiving the donation for the veterans assistance fund were

Bill Fleeger (Veterans assistance fund President), Joyce Fleeger (veterans assistance fund Committee member), Carol Clark-Baney (veterans assistance fund Treasurer), Larry Ermol (veterans assistance fund Committee member), Michel Fenush (veterans assistance fund Committee) and Brian Querry (Director of Veterans Affairs,  Centre County).

“On behalf of the Bellefonte Lady Raiders, our Booster Club, and our fans, said Toomer. “Thank you for your service!”

It is definitely a tradition that is a gift that keeps on giving.
