By Dom Reed

LEWISTOWN  – The Mifflin County field hockey welcomed in The Redland Patriots on senior night under the lights for a primetime matchup at Donald Chapman Stadium.

In true nail biting fashion, the two would take their game into overtime before Redland would take the contest 3-2.

Both teams grinded things out early and often Mifflin County drew first blood with an early 1-0 power shot off the stick of Jayda Kanagy to give the Lady Huskies the lead.

Mifflin County would lead the Lady Patriots 1-0 after the first quarter Mifflin County would have two shots on goal in the opening period.

Mifflin County’s  junior Brynn Rowe would set up the Huskies in the right position for a chance to strike again but it would be denied as Anna Keim would clear it out. Rowe was solid on defense as she limited scoring opportunities for Redland.

“I think we had a really good two quarters. I think our first half we played really good hockey and the second half we came out flat,” said  Mifflin County Head Coach Brittany Wilcox. “We were sloppy. We had too many turnovers and ultimately that’s what happens when you don’t play clean hockey, you turn over balls and you make mistakes that cost you goals so we are getting prepared for Friday’s game at Mifflinburg and we will see how we do.”

Mifflin County and Redland had an intense second half. Mifflin County would strike first. Kanagy would get her second goal. It would be assisted by Rowe she would take it herself down the field what would ultimately lead to a Huskies goal. Redland would have two opportunities to score on two corners but Mifflin County would play solid defense to prevent any scores.

Syd Jama would score the second goal she would have both goals in the game.

But four quarters wouldn’t be enough. Redland would start things off in striking distance on a corner from Charlotte Hoffman but another strong stand from MIfflin County would keep them alive. Redland would strike again to get them the win. Hoffman would make a great shot spoiling Mifflin County’s hopes of getting the win Keim would be assisted

Mifflin County comes up short Mifflin County and will travel to Mifflinburg Friday in hope of a win after coming up short on senior night.
