Huskies sweep the Panthers in track action

LEWISTOWN – After a strong outing Tuesday against a very talented State College team, the MIfflin County track and field team built off that performance sweeping Central Dauphin East Wednesday at home.

The Huskies girls team topped the Panthers 92-57 while the boys took their contest 94-55.

“It was good to see the girls get another one. They’ve kind of had their backs against the wall since the beginning of the season. Like I said after the State College meet that they are really starting to step it up,” said Huskies coach Scott Gantz. “This is the kind of thing we are going to expect from them, meet in and meet out. It was a good meet. It was a total team effort again.”

Taylor Ciccolini led the way for the girls’ squad with four wins.

Teammate Ella Spriggle dominated the hurdles and high jump.

In the 100-meter hurdles Spriggle blazed her way to a time of 16.03 while teammate Morgan Breon placed second with a time of 20.28.

In the 300 hurdles, Spriggle and Breon finished 1-and-2 with times of 48.70 and 1:00.80, respectively.

She was also in the second place 4×400 relay team along with Sophia Plank, Tai Ematat and Kylee Cubbison, posting a time of 4:43.92.

The Huskies swept the 3200-meter run as Ava Harris finished in the top spot (13:47.46).

Justice Sheaffer was next with a time of 15:13.56.

Rounding out the top three was Steinbach with a finish of 15:43.55.

Plank finished third in the 200-meter run with a mark of 29.58.

Cubbison finished second in both the 400-meter run and 800-meter run with times of 1:03.11 and 2:32.57.

Lily Yoder joined Cubbison in the top three with a third place nod in the 400 with a finishing mark of 1:07.76.

In the 4×800 relay, the combination of Ava Harris, Rachel Saldubehere, Justice Sheaffer and Preslee Steinbach finished first with a time of 12:46.39.

MIfflin County finished second and third in the 1600-meter run.

Addie Parson finished second with a mark of 5:48.57.

Teammate Yoder finished third at a mark of 5:53.96.

Rounding out the relay events, the combination of Bryn Kanagy, Shaelyn Bragowsky, Brielle Moon and Alexis Stanton finished second in the 4×100 relay with a time of 58.78.

MIfflin County continued its strong performances sweeping the long jump while Yoder finished in the top slot (15’ 1”), Bryn Kanagy topped out a second (13’ 9”) and Bragosky was third (12’ 9.5”).

Kanagy took second in the triple jump with a leap of 31’ 2” while teammate Ematat rounded out the top three with a third place jump of 28’ 3”.

Spriggle topped the list in the high jump with a launch of 4’10” while Ematat got second with a leap of 4’4”.

Ciccolini topped the chart in the shot put with a winning toss of 27’ 6”.

Stanton finished second with her throw of 22’ 7”.

The two finished in the top three in the discus. Ciccolini won once again with a sling of 77’4” while Stanton threw for a distance of 59’ which was good enough for a third place nod.

In the javelin, the Huskies again swept another event.

Ciccolini led the way with a first place throw of 124’ 4”.

Justine Sheaffer took the second place nod with a toss of 78’ 9”.

Rounding out the top three was Stanton with a throw of 57’ 2”.

Ciccolini and Ematat went 1-2 in the pole vault. Ciccolini finished with a top vault of 7’1” while Ematat finished with a launch of 6’7”.

The boys started out well finishing first in the 4×800 relay.

The team of Brayden Harris, Ben Hartzler, CJ Coffey and Cameron Steinbach finished with a top time of 9:06.61.

“It was definitely a better showing today. The weather definitely wasn’t what it was on Tuesday but after a hard meet like that (State College) and come back two days later and perform like the kids did I’m very proud of that effort,” said MIfflin County coach Scot Sechler. “Just the ability to get your body to recover and be able to perform like that is pretty phenomenal. So that’s a testament of what they do in practice. I think that’s starting to show through in our meets.”

In the boys 100 meters Jayden Jackson finished third with a time of 11.58.

Harris led the pace in the 1600 as the Huskies swept the event. His time of 4:45.13 was followed by Chris Royer’s time of 4:56.54 while Cody Fultz rounded out the top three with a mark of 4:58.32.

MIfflin County also took the 4×100 relay with a time of 46.95. The winning team consisted of Dylan Long, Caden Kauffman, Jackson and Reagan Ettinger.

Hartzler finished in the top position in the 400 with a time of 55.53.

Dominic Reed finished a close second with a mark of 57.58.

Harris also took the 800 as well, finishing with a mark of 2:06.96.

Teammate Fultz landed a third place spot with a time of 2:14.66.

MIfflin County swept the 200 as well.

In the 200, the Huskies got a third place finish by Dylan Long 24:40.

MIfflin County pounded out a second and third in the 3200.

Taking second in the event was Royer with a second place time of 10:39.68.

Teammate Coffey finished with a third place time of 11:00.05.

Rounding out the boys relay teams, the Huskies 4×400 relay team finished second with a time of 4:04.47. The team consisted of members Hartzler, Dominic Reed and Harris.

Caden Kauffman took top honors in the long jump with a top jump of 19’10” while Husky teammate Jackson was second finishing with a leap of 18’ 10”. Rounding out the top three was Dillon Wilt with a top jump of 18’7 2/3”.

Kauffman also took first in the triple jump with a best launch of 39’3”.

Dillon Wilt finished in second with a mark of 37’1 3/4”.

Picking up win number three, Kauffman finished first with a jump of 5’10” in the high jump.

Ettinger finished second with a finish of 5’8”.

Travis Renninger finished second in the shot put with a throw of 36’ 7”.

Elijah Osborne took the third place spot with a throw of 35’10 1/2”.

In the discus, the Huskies took the top three spots.

Renninger took the top spot with a throw of 112’1”.

Finishing second was Alexander Price who finished with a best distance of 96’5”.

In third was Kaden Reid whose toss went 87’8”.

Josiah Sechler notched another first place spot in the javelin. His throw of 159’ paced the rest of the throwers.

Finishing in second was Gabe Yoder with a throw of 112’3”.

In the final event, Ty Small muscled his way to the top with a finish of 8’1” in the pole vault.

Levi Haubrick finished second with a launch of 8’1” while teammate CJ Gill took home a third place nod with a leap of 7’7”.

MIfflin County will be back in action Tuesday when it travels to Cumberland Valley.
